OTHER PEOPLES ART (Jim Lee)

Thu Jun 26, 2008, 9:17 AM
So Ive been trying to think of something that would make for a fun journal entry. I wanted to
keep it art related but Im already sharing most of my stuff in my gallery section. Then it dawned on me. Why not share my collection of OTHER peoples art?

Ive been an avid art collector since college, before I even broke in to the indusrty. Im a fan first, a pro' second. Ive had my collection up on the Comicartfans.com site for years but I know many here might not be aware of the venue. That being said, Im going to post a different piece of art from my private collection every now and then to liven things up a bit.

Here is my 6th entry, the cover to the 2nd HUSH trade paperback by our brightest shining star, Jim Lee. Jim is the closest thing this industry has to a rock star. His name is known throughout the world by both comic and non comic fans alike. Trace back the liniage of the of comic royalty, and I think its safe to say the mantle has been places securely in Jim's able hands. From Kirby, to Adams (Neal), to Byrne, to Jim. When all is said and done Jim's name will probably always be linked first and foremost with his groundbreaking work on the X-Men. But I think theres a good chance that his BATMAN: HUSH series might follow at a close second.

BE SURE TO REFER TO RECENT JOURNAL ENTRIES FOR PAST EXAMPLES FROM MY COLLECTION.

This is a pretty amazing piece of work. I am a huge fan of Lee's work. Loved what him and all the Image guys did at Marvel. The inspired me to who I am today. Of course I still have a lot to learn but they get their props. Thanks for sharing the pic.
I have always liked this piece. As Paris would say, "That's Hot!"
Yeah, no disrespect to those that came before him, but when I think of Batman now, Jim's version is what comes to mind.
Awesome piece Tim. I never get tired of seeing Jim's Bat. Thanks for sharing! Best, ~BoS

Yep, pretty much the best depiction of Batman there ever was to date... Thanks for sharing.

I agree it's his X-Men work that people will remember most - but Damn! That man can draw Batman! His look for Bats will be what they base the character on for years to come. Much like Neal Adams was the one to model him after in the 70's and 80's - Jim's depiction will carry us for years... whether it be through all the merchandising or how other comic artist interpret the character...

Six posts of other peoples art and six very good reasons to hate you, Mr Townsend... (Keep them coming, though... I will try to turn my hate around and learn to live vicariously through you.)

You can't have everything, where would you put it?

I couldnt agree more with your assessment. Jim's Batman will be the archetype for years to come.

Dude, we've discussed this... I really appreciate you sharing, this is an AWESOME piece, awesome! I stopped collecting in the mid/late 80s, so I missed Lee's run on Bats and Xmen... I've heard they rivaled Bryne's run, but I'd habe to have that proven to me... the Hellfire/Dark Phoenix saga was my fav arc ever... I need to fins a way to catch up on the stories, but being almost 20 years behind sucks... take care, and thanks again for sharing.
